| The harp is an instrument, the voice of which is present in almost every culture. Nevertheless, despite this fact, as far as the Iberian Peninsula is concerned, this instrument has had relatively little media coverage to help people to understand the fact that this instrument is not only alive today, but has also played, and still plays, a very important role in Classical music, Celtic music, Ancient music, Folk music and Latin American music, as well as having opened up new horizons in music genres such as Blues, Jazz, Rock, Latin music, New Age and Pop music. Very worthy of mention too is the fact that there are excellent professional harpists and teachers in our country, factors which have consequently given rise to a considerable increase in the number of students and audiences interested in harp music over the last decade. In 2008 I decided to put a stop to this obscurantism by organizing an international harp festival which would give harps from music genres and cultures from all round the world, the opportunity to be heard. The sole purpose of this festival is to heighten people’s awareness and appreciation of the culture of music within our world of haste and repetitious performances. Thanks to the financial support from the Town Hall of Sentmenat, and to an audience which has backed up this project whole-heartedly, the International Harp Festival of Sentmenat has become established as a truly unique event in our country.  Visit our International Harp Festival of Sentmenat website!
